Ultrasounds
Safe, Real-Time Imaging
Jackson County Hospital offers ultrasound imaging to help providers diagnose and evaluate a wide variety of conditions quickly and safely. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves, not radiation, making it a trusted tool for patients of all ages — including during pregnancy.
What to Expect
- You’ll lie comfortably on an exam table while a technologist applies a water-based gel to the area being imaged.
- A small handheld device (transducer) is moved over the skin to capture images.
- You may be asked to hold your breath or change positions to get clearer images.
- Preparation varies depending on the type of ultrasound:
- Some exams require fasting.
- Others may require a full bladder.
- Your provider or scheduling team will give you specific instructions.
