CT Scans
Computed Tomography Scan
Jackson County Hospital uses a state-of-the-art multi-slice CT scanner, installed in March 2021, to deliver fast, high-resolution images for diagnosing a wide range of health conditions. Whether you’re experiencing pain, injury, or unexplained symptoms, CT imaging helps your provider make accurate, timely decisions.
What to Expect
- You’ll lie on a narrow table that moves slowly through the center of a circular scanner.
- It’s important to stay completely still; you may be asked to hold your breath during the scan.
- Some exams require contrast:
- IV contrast may be used to highlight veins and arteries.
- Oral contrast may be required to outline the stomach, small bowel, or colon.
- Your provider will give you preparation instructions based on the type of scan.
- The exam itself is painless and usually completed in just a few minutes.

Most scans take 5 to 15 minutes, though you should allow 30 minutes total for preparation and positioning.
A radiologist will review your images and send a report to your provider, usually within 1–2 business days.
